Network and servers
The ZIM is responsible for the operation of the University intranet as well as the connection to the science network (X-WiN) and the internet. We would like to provide university members and visitors with efficient, state-of-the-art network access at the required locations.
What's the best way to get online?
We offer you various options, the availability of which depends on:
- who you are
- where you are
- which device you are using
We will tell you which access is best for you in each situation. First, check the 'Who' and 'Where' criteria to find out which access options are suitable for your needs.
Server certifications
We carry out server certifications. Please contact ZIM Support if you require a server certificate.
Network security
To protect the University intranet from external attacks, the ZIM operates a firewall on the XWiN port. External access to computers (servers) in the University network is only possible if these are permitted by the firewall. If you operate a server, you must request this firewall permission in writing.
Data storage
We back up your data on the network drives. The internal hard disks, i.e. usually drives 'C:' and 'D:' and external storage media are not backed up by the ZIM; this must be done by the users themselves, if so desired.
